A girl knocked unconscious after being struck by a car while using a zebra crossing on her way to school this morning has a bleed on the brain and a broken ankle.
West Street was closed in both directions between West Street Lane and Colston Avenue after the schoolgirl, 12, was knocked down while crossing the road in Carshalton at 7.44am.
She was using the zebra crossing outside The Hope pub.
Paramedics treated the girl at the scene for a head injury and she has now been taken to St Georges Hospital as a priority.
Police drove her parents to the scene and then on to hospital.
There was heavy traffic queuing between Pound Street and Wrythe Lane.
The female driver, who is aged about 30, is helping police with their enquiries.
More to follow.
