England needs to follow Scotland’s lead and “take control” through a political revolution, says Epsom and Ewell’s Green party hopeful.

Susan McGrath, 51, said she was “happy” with her campaign in the constituency, but believed Tory Chris Grayling will win the vote.

She said: “It’s going to be Chris Grayling again. I’m sad about that.

“I’m hoping his majority will be less and that sends a message to him and his party.

“I am depressed at the thought of a Conservative win.

I am fearful for public services, for equality, absolutely terrified for the planet.”

Ms McGrath said she hopes the momentum of this general election will spur people to take action.

“People have to take control if they want to fight for their public services. I agree with Russell Brand."

The psychotherapist, from Glasgow, said a political “revolution” has happened in Scotland through the rise of the SNP and that she “wishes the same would happen in England”.

But she added: “It’s only last September that we had the referendum and people were saying how wonderful Scotland is and ‘we really need you’ and less than a year on we have a narrative that the SNP would be almost criminal.

“The biggest thing this election shows is the two-party system isn’t working. Surely we have to start looking into a more proportional system.”
