Chris Grayling’s agent has said none of the Tory incumbent’s opponents have “tried very hard” and the Conservative deserves another five years.

As rumours surfaced of a possible 10am result at Epsom Downs Racecourse because of a “vote stuck on the back of another vote” being lost, Joe Fiuza said it is  very likely Mr Grayling will win.

But the agent said it had been important for the Tory to be out and about campaigning across the constituency to secure and better his 16,000 majority.

Mr Fiuza said: “In a relatively safe seat like Epsom and Ewell, short of something dramatic happening, it’s likely Chris will win.

“But it’s about what happens in the vote.

“Chris has spent a fair amount of time out in Epsom and Ewell, he has visited every single ward in the constituency and been knocking on doors.

“I am quietly confident that his share of the vote and majority will be higher.”

Mr Fiuza said he believes Mr Grayling has had no real opposition – bar Labour’s Sheila Carlson who he thinks could come second.

“The other parties haven’t tried very hard and Chris deserves to win, he said.

“The last time around, the Liberal Democrats made a big effort.

"I don’t think anyone really made a big effort this time.

“To their credit, Labour made the biggest effort and could come second, even though there wouldn’t have been that expectation one or two years ago.”
