A night bus running between Croydon and Morden Station through Sutton is set to be introduced in September.

It is proposed to run the 154 service route throughout the night on Friday and Saturdays when the 24-hour London Underground service comes in at the end of the year.

Croydon and Sutton London Assembly member Steve O’Connell said he has been working behind the scenes to make sure people in areas where there is no Tube can still benefit from the changes.

Transport for London has launched a consultation so people can have their say about the change.

The consultation covers 17 services across the capital being extended to run 24 hours on Fridays and Saturdays, and three running 24 hours all week.

Mr O’Connell said: "The night service between Morden, Sutton and Croydon was stopped a while back and so this service will be particularly important to people that enjoy the night time economy.

"I have been pushing for it for some time.

"It’s going to happen. No-one is going to oppose it.

"I think this is really important for my residents."

Mr O’Connell said the Mayor of London Boris Johnson is going to announce the introduction at City Hall tomorrow after he asks him about it at Mayor’s Question Time.
