Firefighters spent more than two hours at a home in Sutton last night after a chimney caught alight.
A crew from Wallington fire station were called to The Byway shortly after 9pm last night after flames were seen coming from the chimney.
Chimney rods were pushed up the flue to get water from the pump to the flames and heat source and minimise damage to the rest of the property.
A Wallington firefighter said: “It can be quite a slow procedure because it is about checking to see if it is [the chimney] cooling down.
“It didn’t seem to be particularly bad but it was enough to heat up and because it is masonry brick, it can retain heat.”
