Forensics: Investigators were at the site for hours after Mr Lee's death

Jason Lewin, 33, of Glenthorpe Road, Morden, and Jonathan Palmer, 30, of Green Wrythe Lane, Carshalton, appeared at Wimbledon Magistrates’ Court this morning charged with the murder of Peter Lee.

Both Mr Palmer and Mr Lewin had visible bruising and cuts on their faces. Mr Palmer appeared to be using a crutch as he entered the dock.

They spoke only to confirm their names, addresses and dates of birth.

No plea was entered and the case was sent to Kingston Crown Court for June 5.

As the pair were led away to be remanded in custody, they blew kisses to two women in the public gallery.

Police were called to Welham Road shortly before 5pm on Monday, June 1, after reports of a burglary.

Three people were taken to hospital, with two men in their 30s said to be suffering from minor stab wounds.

A third man, Peter Lee, of Welham Road, was taken to a south London hospital with injuries consistent with being hit by a vehicle.

He died the following morning in hospital.

Mr Lewin and Mr Palmer are both also charged with aggravated burglary with intent and possessing an offensive weapon in a public place.

A post-mortem examination held yesterday at St George's Hospital, Tooting, gave Mr Lee's cause of death as a severe head injury.

A third man, aged 28, was arrested on suspicion of murder today and he remains in custody at a south London police station.
