The hunt has begun to find the borough’s best gardens and gardeners in the annual Sutton In Bloom competition.

Sutton In Bloom 2015 aims to find the borough’s best front garden, best community garden, best allotment garden and best business frontage, in a bid to encourage Sutton businesses to add a splash of colour to their buildings.

The categories have been designed to allow as many people as possible with an interest in gardening to get involved in the competition.

The organisers want owners of pubs, hotels, leisure facilities and business premises to join in.

Judging will take place at the end of June, with the best of the entries going on to represent Sutton in the London In Bloom competition.

The winners will also attend a lunch where they will receive their awards.

Ross Feeney, chief executive of Successful Sutton, one of the competition’s sponsors and instrumental in bringing colourful giant plant pots to Trinity Square in Sutton High Street, said: “A few hanging baskets or a simple eye-catching planting scheme can make all the difference to a building.

“It shows you take pride in the appearance of your building and the impression it makes and it creates a colourful display for the wider community to enjoy.”

He added his thanks to the Sutton Guardian, Successful Sutton, Times Square Shopping Centre, Recognition Awards and of course Woodcote Green Garden Centre, which will be supplying garden vouchers for the winners and runners-up in all categories.

Entry forms can be obtained from your nearest library and a downloadable version is available on the Sutton website.

Alternatively, call Jackie Eldridge in the environment and leisure office at Denmark Road, Carshalton, on 020 8770 5070.

The closing date for entries is June 19.
