Wild animals and pets have fallen victim to a series of poisonings, according to a warning issued by an animal rescue centre.

Riverside Animal Centre has seen two foxes admitted suffering from poisoning on Saturday and Tuesday, with the first later dying, and the other undergoing life-saving treatment.

Founder of the centre Ted Burden, 47, said residents have also reported that dogs, cats and other animals have become seriously ill after being poisoned in the past three weeks and believes that someone is putting the poison down in the Roundshaw area.

He said: “It is important people in the area know there may be someone, either on purpose or accidentally, who is putting poison down that is harming animals.

“But I am also concerned that children who play in the area might also be affected and we want to draw attention to what appears to be a wide scale poisoning incident in the area.

“If the poison has been put down on grass, or somewhere where people might go for a walk and a child touches something that has the poison on it then they could also get very ill.

“It’s something that everyone in the area should be on the lookout for.”

Mr Burden said that staff from the animal centre wanted to know as much information as possible about animals being poisoned in the Roundshaw Downs.

Anyone with any information is being asked to visit the centre’s major incident vehicle outside the Phoenix Centre in Mollison Drive, in Wallington, tomorrow, Friday, June 12, between 10.30am and noon.
