Police have reminded dog owners they cannot bring their pets in Overton Park.

Sutton's Safer Parks Police were forced to act after a series of complaints to Sutton Council about dog owners allowing them to run off the lead.

Police were in Overton Park on Thursday reminding dog owners who brought their pets into the park that they would be asked to remove their pets.

Pupils from Overton High School use the park for sports and games activities and staff at the school were supportive of keeping the park dog free.

Safer Parks Sergeant Gavin Weldon said: "Our police presence in the park was all about reminding residents that this is a dog free open space."

Councillor Nighat Piracha, deputy chair of the environmental and neighbourhood committee, said: "Overton Park has always been a dog-free park, so no-one is expected to walk their dog there.

"There are several other parks nearby where people can walk their dogs and enjoy green space and fresh air.

"I would also like to remind all dog owners that they must clean up after their dogs should they foul in any park."

If you see someone walking their dog in the park, call Sutton Police Station on 101. Alternatively, you can call our Safer Parks Police Officers on 020 8721 2268.
