A GP surgery has been told it must improve by an independent health care standards watchdog.

Manor Practice, on Manor Road, was rated overall as requiring improvement by the Care Quality Commission (CQC) following an inspection on January 6..

In the report, published on June 11, Manor Park was given a Good rating in three out of five areas assessed, but required improvement in the remaining two.

At the time of the inspection there were 8,535 patients registered at the practice.

Areas that were labelled as Requires Improvement were service safety and service effectiveness.

But the practice was rated Good for service care, responsiveness to people's needs and service leadership and performed particularly well in taking care of diabetic patients.

Specific improvements recommended by the CQC include ensuring audits of practice are undertaken, putting in place specific directions for the administration of vaccines and medicines inline with legal requirements and national guidance and to ensure new staff followed a suitable policy in relation to the completion of disclosure and barring service checks.

A spokesperson for the practice said: "The recent Care Quality Commission (CQC) report found that Manor Road practice is well-led, caring and responsive to patient needs.

"We have addressed, or are in the process of addressing, the procedural changes the CQC have asked us to make."

Professor Steve Field, chief inspector with the CQC, said: "Patients should be able to expect high quality and consistent care from every GP practice.

"Where we have required improvement, we will expect the practice to take the necessary steps to address the issue, and we will return at a later date to check that those improvements have been made."
