Teenagers celebrating completing renovation work on a community centre were shocked to get a visit from former singer and Britain's Got Talent judge Alesha Dixon.

The team from South Thames College carried out the work at The Thomas Wall Centre on behalf of the Prince's Trust and were lining up for a commemorative picture outside the Benhill Avenue centre on June 18 when the celebrity, who is a Trust ambassador made an unexpected appearance.

June 18 marked 25 years since The Prince's Trust was established.

David Tovey, Prince’s Trust team leader, kept the surprise under wraps as his team prepared to celebrate the anniversary.

He said: "I told the group someone was on their way to help us celebrate 25 years of the Team programme, but neglected to mention it was Alesha Dixon. The look on their faces was priceless."

The ten teenagers first raised £550 by bag-packing in Morrisons and carrying out a sponsored walk in May, before beginning work at the centre.

Working from June 1 to June 12 they restored the grounds, cleaned areas around the building, and repainted the windows.
