Water repairs near a Sutton roundabout have disrupted travel and had an impact on local businesses since the works began ten days ago.

A huge hole has appeared on Thicket Road, Sutton, leading to the road being closed off at the end near the roundabout exit.

Traffic coming is being controlled by temporary traffic lights and signs.

A spokeswoman for Sutton and East Surrey Water confirmed that the cause of the repairs was due to a burst pipe they responded to on Saturday, June 27, and said that it could take up to another week before it is finished.

They said that the work had taken so long because a number of other utilities were close to the pipe and that because of this they had to be more careful when they carried out repairs.

She apologised for any inconvenience caused.

Alexander Figueira, owner of the Mad Coffee Bar on Lind Road near to where the works are taking place, said the ongoing repairs had impacted his business.

He said: "It has been a nightmare.

"Deliveries have not been able to come to the cafe and for a few days we had very few customers come in due to the noise and my staff have come to work late because of the traffic.

"Some parents who drop their children of at school nearby have also complained about the disruption it has caused.

"I hope it gets finished soon."

Rosalind Ford, of Benhill Avenue, said she understood repairs had to be made, but was concerned that Sutton and East Surrey Water had not notified her about the ongoing works.

Mrs Ford said: "It is something that has got to be done, but we had no warning about how long it would take place and that some of it would take place at night.

"I would just have liked to have been given some information about it."
