Wandsworth Swimming Club's head coach Kamilla Kozlowska has heaped praise on a dynamic duo who won gold at the London Region Open Water Championships.

Tim Robinson, 19, and Maia Dunleavy, 14, were in fine form in the waters around Surrey Quays in London on Monday to claim the top prize in their respective age groups.

Robinson, who competed in the 19-24 year old age group, swam 5k in one hour four minutes 35 seconds, while Dunleavy swam 1.5k in 20:40.24.

Kozlowska said: “Both Tim and Maia swam great races – it can be difficult to pace yourself over such a long distance, but they both got it exactly right and had the strength left at the end to sprint in for a win.

“Thankfully for them the sunshine we have had recently also meant the water temperature was not as chilly as it sometimes is for open water racing.”

As well as a gold medal, the regional title means both swimmers automatically qualify for the National Open Water Championships at Rother Valley Country Park in Sheffield on August 3.
