A schoolboy was left "very frightened" after a man chased after him before giving up and climbing into a white van.

Police are investigating the story of a boy being followed after he left football training at Cheam High School on Monday, September 21.

A message sent out to parents by the headteacher of nearby All Saints Benhilton Primary School, R.P. Sutton, read: "A year 7 boy left Cheam High School around 3.45pm last night (Mon 21) after football training, and on his way home was aware that he was being followed.

From July 2015: Carshalton child abduction attempts: Fifth case reported

"He got very frightened and crossed over the road, walked down different roads as [he] didn’t want the man to know where he lived.

"The boy started to run and so did the man and the student got very confused and even more frightened. As he approached Cheam Park Farm school the man went into a white van. Mum has reported the incident to the police."

A spokesman for Sutton police said: "We take all such reports seriously and are liaising with the school to gather any additional information about this incident to help us with our enquiries, and to provide reassurance and appropriate advice to pupils.”

This latest incident follows a series of alleged abduction attempts of children in Carshalton and Wallington earlier this year.
