Sutton's most popular dog has been revealed based on findings from the Kennel Club.

The borough’s favourite breed is the labrador retriever, according to registration data.

Bulldogs were named as the fastest growing breed in the borough with their rapid spike in popularity believed to be due to celebrity fashion trends, the Kennel Club said.

Formula 1 champ Lewis Hamilton and former Manchester United star David Beckham are both bulldog owners.

Discover Dogs, Kennel Club Secretary, Caroline Kisko, said: "Every breed is different and one of the reasons dogs end up in rescue is because people make rash choices without doing the proper research.”

Figures also reveal that cocker spaniels and English springer spaniels are also popular in the borough, and both breeds have seen an increase in ownership in the past five years.

But across the UK it is the French bulldog which has risen to the top to be named the nation's favourite dog and has been seen out and about taking walks with Leonardo DiCaprio and Jessie J.
