A Mitcham karate kid won his first international championship in Stratford-upon-Avon last Sunday.
11-year-old Adeleke Oderinde claimed first place in freestyle fighting style Kumite at the International Okinawa Goju Ru Karate-Do championships.
Adeleke is a brown belt and has been practicing karate for seven years since the age of four. He trains at a dojo in Christchurch Road, Colliers Wood with sensei Nicola Harris.
"It’s amazing, I can't believe I went from getting no medals in last year's international competition to becoming champion in my age group this year," the youngster said.
He will now set his sights on the London Regional championships in Chessington next April.
