Jeremy Vine was the latest celebrity to be eliminated from the popular BBC One show Strictly Come Dancing.

The Radio 2 host became the seventh contestant to get the boot after he and his partner, Karen Clifton, failed to impress the judges with their mineshaft inspired quickstep to The Jam's 'Going Underground.'

Both will miss out performing at the Blackpool Tower Ballroom this weekend.

Speaking yesterday on BBC One the judges criticised Vine's lack of finesse, but also praised his commitment and entertainment value.

Judge Bruno Tonioli said: "You haven't quite struck gold yet, at times it looked like you were stuck in mud.

"It was very different and I have to admire your determination and resilience, you do give everything you've got out there."

But Vine found himself yet again lagging behind his fellow contestants and was awarded 21 points, four shy of second-bottom-placed Jamelia.

The two went head-to-head for the dance off, but judges spared the Loose Women panellist over the popular Vine.

Following a standing ovation the 50-year-old praised his partner's choreography and teaching and said the two had formed a friendship over the series.

He said: "We've been arguably knocking out people better than us for several weeks now and that's all down to Karen's choreography, her persistence and understanding where I was coming from and I really appreciate it.
