A pope-inspired pensioner has cycled 150 miles for a climate change campaign.

David Murray peddled from London to Paris to raise awareness of the climate change after Pope Francis called for urgent action to be taken to prevent it.

The St Elphege’s parishioner said he was inspired by the Pope’s speech and joined campaigners from the Catholic Agency for Overseas Development when he set out on Monday.

Mr Murray said: “Alongside Pope Francis’s message, my witnessing of this injustice particularly motivated me to do something different and take a more direct approach to publicise the dangerous effects of climate change.

“It’s the people living in the poorest communities who are hit first and hardest by climate change, yet these changes are caused mainly by actions of the rich world.”

The father-of-three was expected to reach Paris yesterday.
