Heartbreaking scenes in Tooting tonight as homeless Somali woman sits where bench was removed

This is the heartbreaking scene outside Tooting TK Maxx tonight as a homeless woman insists on spending the night where she and her son lived for nine months.

Emergency services were called to the bench on Monday and the Somali woman was hospitalised after suffering from cold.

The next day the bench was removed when Wandsworth Council decided it was in the best interest of the family who had made the bench their home.

Drug dealer caught after being shopped by irate customer he sold £225-worth of grass instead of cannabis

A drug dealer who tried to palm off a punter with garden grass instead of cannabis was caught out when the "customer" told police he had been robbed.

A devastating fire tore through the Grade II* listed Battersea Arts Centre this afternoon.

The old Victorian town hall, in Lavender Hill, was coming to the end of a £13.3m restoration project, started in 2006.

Thick clouds of smoke could be seen across London, billowing into the sky.

Flowers placed outside The Little Bar in Tooting after man's death

Wandsworth Times:

A 49-year-old man has died after being found unresponsive at The Little Bar in Tooting.

There was a police cordon outside the popular Mitcham Road bar on Thursday afternoon.

The bar was still closed today, Friday, April 10, with flowers and candles placed in the doorway.

'Smelly rotting goat leg has been on top of Clapham Junction bus stop for a month'

Wandsworth Times:

A smelly, rotting goat leg has been lying on the roof of a Clapham Junction bus stop for a month, according to bus users.

People have described seeing a hoof hanging over the bus shelter Y, outside Nationwide bank, in Saint John’s Road.

It is not known how the leg came to be on the bus stop roof.

UPDATE: Putney Bridge to re-open and all safe, say police

Putney Bridge has been re-opened after police incident that saw it closed to all traffic. 

Wandsworth MPS tweeted the news at about 5.30pm. 

Officers had been talking to a man seen standing over the edge of the bridge.

Hunt on for attempted rapist who got into woman's flat through open balcony door

Wandsworth Times:

An attempted rapist tried to force a woman to perform a sex act on him after two men got into her flat through an open balcony door, the Metropolitan Police have said.

Police have released an e-fit on one of the men they want to question.

The woman, a 21-year-old, was at her Roehampton home when two men entered her home through the open balcony door.

Party’s over: Late night licence breaches spell end for troubled pub

The final pints have been poured after landlords of a pub with a history of late night revelry withdrew their appeal against the removal of their licence, the Metropolitan Police said.

The Princes Head in Falcon Road, Wandsworth, had its licence stripped in June this year after Sergeant Wayne Humphrey of the Metropolitan Police applied to have the pub reviewed for repeatedly selling booze after hours.

The pub had announced its intention to fight the order but this week has dropped its appeal and will now close.

Schools warned of man approaching young girls in Earlsfield

A man repeatedly approached two young girls in the space of five days, Metropolitan Police have said.

The first girl, 13, was followed and then approached in Ellerton Road, Earlsfield, at about 10:15 on Sunday, September 13.

A man tried to talk to her and touched her wrist before she pulled away and ran off.

Rowdy rugby fans "scrum" young woman's car in Battersea, leaving her "petrified"

A young woman was left "petrified" after a group of rowdy rugby fans attacked her car as she drove through Battersea in the early hours of Sunday morning.

Laura Louise Morris, 21, was driving her silver Ford Fiesta in St John's Hill, when a group of about 20 men rushed her car and attempted to form a rugby scrum.

UPDATED: Stabbing inside Southfields Academy

A pupil at Southfields Academy has spoken of the terror which swept through the school as armed men  waved knives yesterday afternoon and stabbed a 15-year-old schoolboy.

The teenager was stabbed in the leg and taken to hospital on Tuesday after the attack at the building in Merton Road.

High speed motorbike chase in Tooting ends in arrest
Wandsworth Times:
A high speed pursuit in Tooting involving a police helicopter has ended with an arrest.

Police were called at 2.08pm to Garratt Lane at the junction with Tooting High Street to reports of a man acting suspiciously.

The man fled on a motorbike but was arrested a short while later on suspicion of going equipped to steal, according to police.
