A 13-year-old Sutton schoolboy has died suddenly.

The teenager, a pupil at Greenshaw High School, was pronounced dead after paramedics were called to Canterbury Road, Morden on Wednesday.

Staff and students at the Grennell Road school were said to be shocked by his death, which police are not treating as suspicious.

A Metropolitan Police spokesman said paramedics were called to “reports of a sudden death” at 6.20pm.

The boy, understood to be in Year 9, was taken by ambulance to south London hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

A report is being prepared for the coroner.

Friends have paid tribute to the boy on social media.

A spokeswoman for Greenshaw High School said: "We are all shocked by this tragic event.

"We do not know the full details, but our thoughts are with the family."
