A man was injured after lift in a sheltered housing block plummeted three floors.
Firefighters, paramedics and an air ambulance all attended following the fall at Ronald House in Carshalton Road, Sutton.
The man, thought to be aged in his early 60s, was taken to St George's Hospital for treatment of leg injuries at about 1.30pm.
An air ambulance was seen landing at Warren Park but the man was taken to hospital by road.
Sutton Housing Society, which manages the building, is investigating and has closed the lift.
Chief executive Chris Turton said be believed the injured man was visiting a tenant at the time.
He said: "It is our primary concern to find out how and why this happened.
"Our lifts are inspected twice annually by inspectors wholly independent of the organisation."
