Commuters should expect another day of disruption as Southern train conductors continue a 24-hour strike over planned changes to their jobs.

The walk-out began at 11am yesterday and saw cancellations, delays and queues at some of south London's busiest rail stations, including Clapham Junction and East Croydon.

RMT union members voted to strike after Southern announced plans to abolish the conductor role and replace it with an "on-board supervisor", as well as move to driver-only operated trains on some services.

The union has accused the company of putting passengers' safety at risk and warned of job losses.

Souther has said the plans will "improve customer service on board our trains".

The strike today is scheduled to end at 10.59am, although the operator has warned commuters to expect a reduced service throughout the day.

Further strikes are planned by the RMT for May 10, 11, 12, and 13.
