A blind pensioner who plays her drums at sing-alongs in a local care home is asking for a driver to help her get to more events in the borough.

74-year-old Jackie Wilson, who lives in sheltered accommodation in Hepworth Court, Rosehill, has been blind for 18 years.

Your Local Guardian:

Before then with her husband, the late Jim Wilson, she fostered more than 200 children who had been poorly treated, over many years.

The pensioner moved to her Sutton home five years ago, after her husband died aged 74.

She said: “I live with lots of people but I sit on my own for five days a week.

“Everyone else sits together, or they don’t come into the communal room."

Every Thursday, though, she plays her drums as part of a sing-along with residents of The Lodge care home in, Brighton Road, Sutton.

The pensioner added: “But when I go to the care home on Mondays I play along to war-time music, and all my friends sing along.

“We all have a great time and I think it’s good for them.”

“I would love to play elsewhere, I just need help to get around.”
