A bus crashed into a fallen lamppost this morning causing traffic misery through Purley.
Police were called to Purley Way near the junction of Waddon Road at 11.36am reports of lorry knocking over a lampost.
Shortly after the fire brigade were alerted that a bus had crashed into the fallen street light.
The road was closed in both directions while emergency services worked to remove the stricken 410 bus from the carriageway.
There were reports of long delays in the area this afternoon as Purley Way remained closed southbound and Waddon Road closed eastbound, police said.
A Met spokesman added: "Road closures will remain in place until the power connection has been cut and the loose street furniture removed from the scene."
No arrests have been made.
