Thunderstorms forced a family to move out of their home after it flooded three times in just four days.

Mother-of-eight Susan Otto, said she was “mentally fatigued” by the disruption and blamed her housing association for failing to protect their flat in Barnard Close, Wallington.

The self-employed cleaner, 58, claimed her family had been treated worse than “dogs in a kennel” by Metropolitan.

The housing association took over the running of flats in Barnard Close, on the Roundshaw estate, last year.

Miss Otto said: “We reported it on Thursday morning when it first flooded.
“Then our home flooded again on Thursday night and on Sunday night as well and we have since remained here.

“During the storms we flooded and we had to be moved out of the house and yet the housing association have not done anything at all.”

Following the initial flooding, the flat’s floorboards have come loose, pipes have leaked and ventilation ducts have been damaged due to water flowing through them.

The damage means the family’s flat, as well as seven other neighbouring homes, are flooded each time it rains.

Miss Otto, who has lived on the Roundshaw estate for 25 years, said: “You would not treat dogs like this in a kennel.
“It’s unacceptable for people to be treated like this.

“I pay £120 a week in rent for this house, it is completely unacceptable. But I do not feel anger anymore, I just feel mentally fatigued at the moment and want this sorted.

A spokesperson for Metropolitan said: “Following unusually heavy rainfall early on Thursday morning last week, there was a leak which affected a number of properties at Barnard Close.

“We responded quickly, with staff and contractors on site that morning to assess and to try to resolve the problem, and temporary accommodation offered to affected residents.

“This is a complex repairs case and full investigations are being carried out so we can put a long term solution in place.

In the meantime, the safety and wellbeing of our residents are our top priorities. An electrician has attended to ensure properties affected by the leak are safe, and we are working to repair any water damage caused to homes as quickly as possible.”
