A driver caught whizzing through Sutton town centre at more than twice the speed limit told cops he had been racing home because he was desperate for the loo.

The motorist found himself in a wee spot of bother after police with a roadside speed gun clocked his BMW hurtling past at 76mph on a 30mph street.

Officers who stopped the 30-year-old were bowled over by his crap excuse: he was afraid of being caught short as he travelled home from work.

He is likely to be summoned to court, where magistrates could slap him with a fine or relieve him of his driving licence.

The motorist was speeding the fastest of all those clocked by police on Tuesday evening.

A Metropolitan Police spokesman said the man “told police he was desperate to go to the toilet whilst on his way home from work and was just a couple of minutes from his home in Sutton”.

Ten other motorists were reported for offences including speeding and driving without insurance during the routine operation, which took place between 7pm and 9pm.

A Metropolitan Police spokesman said: “Each case will be investigated and the most serious offenders are likely to be summonsed to court.”

He would not reveal the location of roadside checkpoints for “operational reasons” as speed tests are set to continue throughout the summer.
