The best front gardens in the borough have been announced.

This year’s winners of the front garden category of the Sutton in Bloom competition are Mr and Mrs Fawcett for their blooming brilliant efforts on the front of their Carshalton home.

The green fingered pair will now go on to represent the borough at the London-wide competition.

Children from Muschamp Primary School also picked up a prize, as they did in last year’s competition, for work on their school garden.

Heidi Westley, the school’s head teacher, said: “We are all so pleased to have won again this year, the children put so much energy and time into keeping their school looking beautiful.

“They all appreciate nature and want to make a difference to the environment.

“Visitors are always surprised that so many flowers can co-exist with over 500 children!”

Other category winners were Ms Foundation for her community garden, and Mr Parimelalagan of Roundshaw for his well-kept allotment patch.

Worcester Park’s H.G Wells restaurant and bar were awarded a prize for their entry in the business frontage category.

The winners and runners-up of this year’s competition received their awards from Deputy Mayor Cllr Nali Patel at a ceremony at Woodcote Garden Centre in Wallington on Thursday, July 14.

Cllr Nali Patel said: “Sutton is rightly renowned as green and leafy borough and I’d like to pay tribute to the hard work of the gardeners and growers who have put so much effort into establishing and maintaining the excellent gardens we’ve been so lucky to see in this year’s contest.

“Congratulations to all the winners and runners-up – and keep up the good work.”
