A former Sutton councillor has been charged with abusing his position at a charity to commit fraud.
Alan Salter, 66, of Butter Hill, Wallington, is alleged to to have fradulently exploited his role as a trustee at Carshalton Association for the Elderly between July 21, 2015, and May 7 this year.
The Liberal Democrat stepped down as councillor for Carshalton Central in June after police began investigating allegations against him and was later arrested at his home.
He was charged with one count of fraud by abuse of position today and was bailed to appear at Croydon Magistrates' Court on Monday, August 22.
Mr Salter's resignation triggered a by-election in Carshalton Central, which was won by Lib Dem candidate Chris Williams.
