A Surbiton man who scooted all the way to Swanage on a child’s toy has made it home.
In an athletic feat to rival any Olympian, Brett Alderton set off on his epic journey from the Lamb pub last Wednesday morning, arriving three days and 166 miles later before jubilant crowds.
Mr Alderton has so far raised more than £1,600 for Creative Youth, the charity that organises the International Youth Arts Festival, far exceeding his £1,248 target.
He said: “I have some very swollen feet but everything else seems to be ok.
"It was not quite what I expected not being an experienced scooter.
"The first day was very hot and I felt very poorly but the second day was lovely, apart from getting lost a couple of times.
"I got very wet on the third day and was forced to take a train through the New Forest because of the conditions.
“Everyone has been so supportive. I’m just pleased it’s all over and I hope I never have to see another scooter again.”
