Two men attempted to abduct a 10-year-old girl outside her primary school on Wednesday, police are warning.

The men approached the child, whilst driving slowly past in a BMW, and one asked her to get into the car at around 4.25pm.

The incident took place in Devonshire Road, near Devonshire Primary School.

The girl refused and returned to school to tell staff.

An email from the school, in Devonshire Avenue, was sent to parents following the incident.

It read: “A 10-year-old Devonshire School girl was walking along Devonshire Road at approx 4.30pm yesterday [Wednesday, September 21] when two men told her to get in their car.

“Very sensibly she turned and came straight back to school.

“Police have been informed. She is safe and in school today.”

Police are appealing for witnesses.
