A Carshalton primary school has joined the 'Make the Brake' campaign in promoting safer road usage.

The campaign, led by road safety charity Brake, focuses on the six pledge points of slow, sober, secure, silent, sharp and sustainable as part of Road Safety Week from November 21 to 27.

Pupils at Barrow Hedges Primary School were asked to illustrate what they and their parents will promise to do to make roads safer for everyone, with Trevor Sterling from law firm Moore Blatch, judging the artwork at an assembly on November 23.

He said: "The Road Safety Week campaign is a great opportunity to get as many people talking about road safety as possible.

"Taking the message into schools regularly means that children learn as early as possible to understand the risks around them, and they can encourage their parents to be more alert and change their behaviour too."

The children were also given 'Heads up, Tim-Tron', a book by The Children's Trust, which is designed to teach children about brain injuries.
