An Epsom charity has sent more than one hundred personalised hampers to hospital patients heading home alone this Christmas.

Patients at Epsom and St Helier hospitals received Christmas hampers from Three Cheers for Cheers, which collects money and donations every year to put together a gift selection for those who live alone.

Three Cheers for Cheers founder Rowena Gregory said: “It is such a joy to put these hampers together each year.

“We know that going home from hospital can be a worrying time for many people, particularly if they are going home alone.”

Children from Stamford Green Primary School in Epsom, Avenue Primary Academy School in Belmont and Tweeddale Primary School in Carshalton decorated the hampers individually to personalise the sets.

Gregory, who turned 60 this year, completed a sponsored 60k static bike ride to raise £950 which was enough to fund over half of the hampers.

She said: “My 60th birthday felt like the perfect time to set myself a new challenge, and raising money to support the work we do at Three Cheers for Cheers was the perfect motivation.”

Cheers for Cheers has been sending hampers to the hospital since 2011 and chief nurse Charlotte Hall said she was blown away by this year’s supply.

She added: “This is the sixth Christmas that we have received this wonderful donation for our patients, which is not only an incredibly touching gesture, but one that truly makes a real difference.

“On behalf of the trust and our patients, I’d like to say a heartfelt thank you – and merry Christmas – to Rowena and everyone involved in Three Cheers for Cheers.”
