On Saturday 29 April BANOS Musical Theatre (previously known as the Banstead & Nork Operatic Society) were in the Banstead May Queen Parade with a late 1960s Ford Cortina to publicise their next show ‘MADE IN DAGENHAM – THE MUSICAL’. It’s at the Adrian Mann Theatre, Ewell, 17-20 May – tickets from Ticketsource.co.uk/banos.
Funny and inspiring, Made in Dagenham is set in Essex in 1968. The musical is bursting with lively 60s style musical numbers. It shows how ordinary people can do extraordinary things when they stand together. Rita, a working woman and mother, becomes a spokesperson for a group of female workers at Ford's Dagenham plant, who strike to fight for pay equal to that of their male colleagues. This led to Barbara Castle’s Equal Pay Act 1970. Women still struggle with work and home responsibilities – and appropriately this production supports the charity RELATE.
