Councillor Jean Crossby has been named the 53rd Mayor of Sutton.
The St Helier ward representative was appointed to the position during a full council meeting at the Sutton Civic Offices on Monday, May 22.
Cllr Crossby, who was first elected to the council in 2014, will be supported by Sutton South Cllr Marlene Heron, who has taken on the role of Deputy Mayor.
At the ceremony, Cllr Crossby said: “It is a great honour to be elected to this office and I am humbled you have bestowed this distinction upon me. I will do my utmost to promote the borough and thank my predecessor, Cllr Richard Clifton and his deputies.
“We have so many kind and generous people in the borough that are prepared to give their time for others. Please take part in my fundraising events throughout the year to support my two charities, Sutton Carers Centre and Sutton Women’s Centre.”
Outgoing Mayor Cllr Richard Clifton, who raised £26,000 for his two chosen charities, thanked those who supported him during his tenure as the borough’s official representative.
He said: “This last year has passed in the blink of an eye. I want to thank those many people who have helped raise so much money for charities this year.”
