A Royal Mail XI will face Sunday League club AFC Sutton & Cheam in efforts to raise funds for Royal Marsden Hospital this weekend (Sunday, July 2) at Borough Sports Ground at Gander Green Lane, Sutton.

The day will involve cake and sweet stalls, a bouncy castle and raffle prizes to be won, with money raised on the day going to the hospital’s cancer charity unit.

Conor Kane, a postman for Royal Mail and a member of AFC Sutton & Cheam, organised the event after grandmother passed away from bowel cancer last year.

“This year I wanted it to be much bigger and better,” he said.

“Another motive for this year’s event is that my colleague, unfortunately, lost her mother to cancer [in March].

“I decided to get this going and host the event in memory of those who have lost and to raise money for a fantastic local hospital that means so much to us. We have so many people donating things and wanting to get involved, the support has been fantastic,” he added.

More than £400 raised last year, with the target now set to £1,500.

Residents are encouraged to attend and donate generously, with balloons being released at half-time and a fundraising event taking place in the Times Square Lounge with drinks, snacks and hot food available.

Kick-off is scheduled for 12:30 pm.

Admission for adults is £5, and for juniors it is £1. For more information, please contact Conor Kane on 07590 627 148 or conorkane@gmail.com.
