Epsom’s annual search to find the elusive purple emperor butterfly gets underway this weekend.
The purple emperor is only on the wing for a short period in the summer and spends much of its short lifespan in treetops feeding on honeydew.
Alison Gilry leads the butterfly stroll around Epsom Common to find the distinctive purple winged invertebrate from 2pm on Sunday, July 8.
Walkers are advised to meet at the notice board in the Stew Pond car park in Christ Church Road, Epsom.
