The Sutton Music Service hosted a concert featuring over 800 young people at the Royal Festival Hall on Wednesday (July 19).

As many as 1,600 audience members watched the show which featured 600 children and staff from 13 local primary schools who were joined by the borough’s elite choir for 8-13 year olds, Sutton Young Singers.

Sutton Youth Symphony Orchestra, Young Musicians Orchestra, Sutton Youth Orchestra and Sutton Youth Symphonic Band also all performed a diverse range of music.

Councillor Wendy Mathys, Chair of Sutton Council’s Children, Families and Education Committee, said: “It was an absolutely outstanding concert. I am sure all the children who took part must have found it inspirational and the whole event a lasting memory for them.”

Ian Comfort, Chair of Sutton Education Services board, commented: ”From start to finish, the entire performance was one of true quality and the total enjoyment of all the young people involved was both evident and infectious. It was without doubt an absolute success and something for the entire borough to celebrate and be proud of.”

Chair of Sutton Music Hub board, Philip Hedger, added: “Congratulations to you and all at Sutton Music Service for an amazing concert. I’ve been to a lot of Music Service concerts in my time and even produced some and I thought the quality and quantity of what Sutton Music Service delivers was incredible.

“Sutton have always been one of the best. The musical standard, diverse repertoire and ages was really impressive, as was the size of the audience, amazing work and a real bench mark for other Music Services across the country.”
