A 19-year-old woman has pledged support to elderly people who had their cars targeted by vandals.

After the story was published on Sutton Guardian the Halfords worker quickly offered to help victims in getting their cars repaired.

Lilleymae Perry, who works for Halfords on Crown Road in Sutton, was left angered after reading the reports of the defaced cars.

“It’s just really horrible,” she said. “It made really upset. There were people who are 96 years old who were affected. It made me really angry.”

Lilleymae added: “I try and go out of my way to help those people. Reading the story about them having no money to fix their cars makes me feel like I should be the one to help.”

After speaking to her employers at Halfords they decided to offer a discount to victims of the vandal attack at Barton Court on Grove Road in Sutton on Monday August 16.

Yesterday, August 17, Lilleymae along with a colleague managed to remove “about 65 per cent” of the graffiti off one of the victim’s cars.

One of the reasons why Lilleymae was so willing to help was because she considered that it could have been her grandparents who were affected.

“After I read the story I thought of all the customers I get, especially the elderly,” Lilleymae continued.

“Sometimes we can’t help them with all the parts they need and I see how worried they get. Sometimes they think that if we can’t help them nobody can as they have no family who can help. They get upset and that makes me upset.

“I just don’t like seeing people so out of pocket. They don’t know how to go about fixing their cars and it will be a lot of money.”
