A hospital in Cheam officially unveiled their new £30 million theatre complex on Thursday, September 14, with the Mayor of Sutton in attendance.

Spire St Anthony’s Hospital, based on Cheam Road, was equipped with six new theatres and a musculoskeletal centre comprising of a gym and hydrotherapy pool.

Sutton Mayor, Cllr Jean Crosby, was taken on a tour of the new facilities.

Mr Bryan Harty, Hospital Director, said: “It has been a wonderful day showcasing the hospital and celebrating an exciting new chapter for this historically significant and distinguished hospital. It has been particularly special to have the children here as well, who have helped to make this area so welcoming with their beautiful artwork.

“The extensive investment in the hospital means our patients, young and old, are now benefitting from an exceptional clinical environment which is attracting the best surgeons in the region.

“Our surgeons can carry out highly complex procedures with the added confidence that they are using the latest equipment and our 24-hour Intensive Care Unit means we can support patients with more complex needs post-surgery."

St Cecelia's Primary School brought ten school children to the opening day after they were chosen to have their artwork displayed on the walls of the new operating theatre.

A donation was presented from CEO of Spire Healthcare, Catherine Mason, to teacher Mrs Scripps to go towards new books for a recently developed dedicated reading area.

As well as the six new operating theatres, a post anaesthetic care unit with eight adult and one children's bay has been installed. A sterile service containing modern decontamination equipment is also new to the hospital.
