A warning has been issued to drivers who park their vehicles in a residential road in Sutton.

Belmont Safer Neighbourhoods Team left leaflets on cars along a stretch of Egmont Road - a popular spot for commuters - on Friday (September 29) informing drivers about recent damage to parked vehicles on the road.

The laminated A5 leaflet left on windscreens read: "There have been several reports of criminal damage to motor vehicles in Egmont Road and this is believed to be due to parking issues on this road.

"We urge those parking on Egmont Road to be mindful of how they are leaving their vehicle parked."

One motorist who parks on Egmont Road on weekdays told Sutton Guardian: "It is always tricky to get a spot on Egmont Road but there's really a lack of options nearby.

"The offices lots of us work at don't provide enough staff parking and there's also a school nearby. I've already had my tyres slashed once while parked there and clearly there have been others."

The neighbourhoods group in Belmont advised drivers not to park in anyone's driveway or cause obstruction to the high way.

Police added that the local police team were aware of the issue and are present in the area as often as possible to prevent crime and anti-social behaviour.

Belmont Police are available on 0208 721 2829.
