The best and worst secondary schools in Sutton for pupil progression have been revealed today.

Progress 8 is the government's new way of measuring the progress of pupils between the end of secondary school (key stage 2) and the end of secondary school (key stage 4).

Eight qualifications are considered including English, maths, sciences, computer science, history, geography and languages and three additional qualifications.

They are then given a score above or below zero - with scores above zero meaning pupils made more progress, on average, than pupils across England who got similar results at the end of key stage 2. Being scored below zero means there is less progress on average.

Nonsuch High School was the highest scoring Sutton school with a mark of 1.15.

They along with Wallington High School for Girls were both in the top 30 schools nationally for GSCE progress performance.

The schools joined together in 2015 and work as part of the Nonsuch and Wallington Education Trust (NWET).

Jane Burton, CEO of NWET, said: "Jane Burton, CEO of NWET, said “We are absolutely thrilled to get some of the highest Progress 8 scores in the country, and credit goes to the hard work of the staff and students across both schools and the input and support of our parents.

"Going forward, we are excited that the Trust can build on this success, and continue to grow its expertise and collaboration in girls’ education."

Glenthorne High School also impressed with a score of 0.51 - the fourth best in the borough.

Head teacher of Glenthorne, Mr Hume, said: "This reflects the outstanding progress that Glenthorne pupils make across a range of subjects – half a grade higher than the national average - which is down to the culture of high expectations and achievement and exceptional quality of teaching and support for revision at the school."
