A restaurant in Carshalton has been recognised for serving some of the tastiest curry in the UK after its chef was nominated for a national award.

Mamum Alam, head chef of Blue Bengal, has been shortlisted for the Curry Chef of the Year Awards by the Bangladesh Caterers Association.

The 40 chefs were shortlisted for their presentation, hygiene standards, innovation and customer service.

Speaking to Sutton Guardian, Mr Alam said: “I am so thrilled to have been shortlisted for the Live Chef Cook Off. It is a great acknowledgement for what we prepare daily.

“We pride ourselves on our friendly atmosphere and customer service. Our most recommended dish is Naga chicken methi.

"Come to our restaurant and dine with passion!"

Blue Bengal - based on Carshalton High Street - is also famed for its winning dish, Salmon Moza Dar.

A judging panel included ex cricketer, Scott Newman, Sky Sports presenter, Andy Burton and executive chef of The Hilton, Jasbir Dawar.

The winners will be announced at the BCA’a annual awards at the Park Plaza hotel in Westminster on November 19, 2017.
