Age UK Sutton has been shortlisted to be in with a chance to win a grant of £4,000 from a community funding scheme.

Tesco has teamed up with Groundwork to launch the initiative where grants of £4,000, £2,000 and £1,000 will be awarded to community groups.

Three groups in every Tesco region have been shortlisted to receive a grant including charity Age UK Sutton.

CEO of Age UK Sutton, Nicola Upton, said: “As a small, independent charity, we raise our own funds for services that help and support older people in Sutton to live well and enjoy later life. Our popular Internet and computer classes give older people in our community the chance to experience first-hand how getting online and using a computer can change their life.

"Something as simple as learning to browse the web can open a whole new world to an older person- allowing them to access information, rediscover hobbies, explore interests, meet new people, stay in touch with family and friends, and connect with their community among other benefits.

"Winning the top prize will help us make lessons more accessible in the community, so more older people will gain the skills and confidence to conquer the digital jungle.”

The grant money is raised through carrier bag sales.

Voting closes on November 1 at Tesco stores in Sutton which are on Brighton Road, Malden Road Express, North Cheam Express, Angel Hill, Cheam Extra, Lower Road Express and Wallington.
