More than a thousand children and their parents took part in the second Cheam Scream this Halloween, raising over £1,500 for a community project.

The Halloween spectacle was held in Cheam Village on October 27, where attendees hunted the event laden village in a quest for sweets.

It was organised by business owners Sarah Orru from Stiches Haberdashery, Suzanne Greenslade from Tasha’s Tearoom and Lucy Duckworth, social media coordinator of Cheam Life.

One of the event organisers Lucy Duckworth, 45, was assisted by her four young children, who acted as marshals and photographers, each earning £5 for their hard work.

Lucy said: “Our whole ethos is promoting Cheam village.

“Businesses all really like it and shops are starting to see the difference.

“Everyone gets a bite of the cherry.”

The money raised will be hopefully be invested in Nonsuch Park.

This is inspired by the Trim Trail at Cheam Park, which the organisers donated £1,000 towards following the Cheam Scream 2016.

The shops and businesses involved provided events such as face painting, cupcake decorating, craft making and story-telling.

The Cheam Scream was created to highlight what Cheam Village has to offer.

There are already plans for next year, including a happy hour across pubs and restaurants for parents. A Cheam Hop is also being planned for Easter.
