A man was arrested in the early hours of Sunday morning after allegedly "smashing up" his house in Bridgewood Road, Sutton.
Police were called at 5.50am after reports of a disturbance involving the man, believed to be in his 20s.
A Met spokesman told Sutton Guardian: "Colleagues from the Territorial Support Group attended as a precaution following reports that he had been armed with an axe.
"The male was arrested for criminal damage outside the address and taken to a south London police station."
