A mum has decided to give back to St Helier Hospital after they treated her baby boy who was born six weeks prematurely.

Sophie Gilloway, from Sutton, has raised over £3,500 for the hospital’s neonatal unit since baby Freddie arrived on July 22, 2016.

Freddie spent two weeks in an incubator in St Helier’s dedicated neonatal unit.

The grateful mum organised a special glitter ball fundraising event on November 4 at The Holiday Inn in Sutton as a thank you to the staff.

Sophie said: “The nurses were always so friendly and approachable but never panicked. The reassurance they gave us was really important, especially during such a frightening time.

“They don’t just provide care to the baby and mother, but are incredibly considerate to other family members too. I just thought it was a great service that we sometimes might take for granted.

“We wanted to say thank you for the care we received and try to give something back so that other families in a similar position can benefit too.”

Head of nursing for paediatrics, Lorna Bramwells, said: “We are so touched that Sophie and her husband Adam arranged this amazing event in our honour.

“I would like to say a huge thank you to the whole family and everyone involved in organising the event.”
