Rotarians have given away £17,000 to charity from its Christmas fundraising.

The money was raised by Cheam and Sutton Rotary over the Christmas period and officially handed out at a cheque distribution dinner at the Holiday Inn in Sutton last week.

The main fundraising activity was a Santa Sleigh which toured Cheam, Sutton and Worcester Park in December for the 52nd year.

Charities to have received money included Macular Society, Save the Children, Royal Marsden Cancer Charity, Multiple Sclerosis Society, Sutton and Croydon MS Therapy Centre, Hosanna House Pilgrimage Trust, St Dunstan’s Group, Nomntu Project and various scouts, cubs and explorers groups in the Sutton Borough.

The Club has also made a donation to the charity Crisis from the Christmas funds it has raised.

Cheam and Sutton Rotary president Howard Smith said: “We are able to donate over £17,000 to charity as a result of our Christmas fundraising activities. We are proud of this achievement and we thank everyone who have contributed to our success for their support and generosity.”
