A symphony orchestra ‘full of romance and revolution’ is coming to Cheam this weekend.
The Sutton Symphony Orchestra (SSO) will be hosting ‘Russian Romance and Revolution’ at St Andrew’s Church, in Northey Avenue, on March 24.
It follows its previous two concerts and now involves Tchaikovsky’s Romeo and Juliet fantasy overture and Rachmaninov’s 2nd Piano Concerto.
Pianist John Paul Elkins said: “Rachmaninov's 2nd piano concerto is a piece steeped in intensity and drama, combining ravishing tunes with raw power, moments of heart-stopping beauty with frenetic athleticism.
“There can be few more thrilling works to perform, or to experience as a listener.”
In the second half there will be a performance of Shostakovich’s mighty 10th symphony, a Russian musician who grew up through the 1910s.
The event will begin at 7.30pm, with tickets for adults on the door £10 while under-18s go free. There will also be cakes at the interval.
