A man and a woman who attacked an Uber driver after the latter accused him of stealing her bag have both been convicted.

Romanian national Ioan Pal, 23, of Aspen Gardens in Mitcham, and British national Charlotte Johnson, 20, of Green Close in Carshalton, were found guilty of GBH at Inner London Crown Court earlier this week on May 8.

The Somali driver - who speaks ‘limited English’ - drove off without after realising he had Johnson’s bag in the back of his car following a ride last year.

He was punched at least four times with injuries that left him with three fractures to his cheekbone and eye socket after he was taken to hospital by the London Ambulance Service, according to police.

Johnson travelled in his vehicle from her home address in Carshalton to nearby Middleton Road before asking him if she could visit a shop.

After getting help from her friends, including Pal, she used an app to trace her phone before both him and Johnson confronted him in Streatham’s Madeira Road.

Police officers in Lambeth identified Johnson as having booked the Uber, with her later being arrested in February 2017.

Later enquiries led to Pal who was then interviewed under caution last September and then summonsed to court.

Now the two will be sentenced at Inner London Crown Court on June 1.
