Roy William Pavitt, of Winchcombe Road, was charged on June 19 following possession of an imitation firearm with intent to cause fear of violence.
Police were called to the incident at Green Wrythe Post Office in Middleton Road, a Met Police spokesman said.
The 57-year-old appeared at Croydon Magistrates’ Court the following day, and is scheduled to next appear at Croydon Crown Court on July 13.
